There are many situations in which teachers find themselves having to focus, or ground, students at the start of lessons before meaningful learning can occur. It may be at the start of the day, following lunch break, following lessons outside the classroom such as P.E., after students have been away from school on site visits, etc. This series provides fun, engaging and purposeful activities that will assist teachers in this regard.
In undertaking these activities, the students are not idling away valuable learning time on some fill-in game. Instead they are working on challenging, stimulating material that reinforces and extends their knowledge of core curriculum areas. For each activity, the focus and the curriculum area covered are indicated (see the contents pages for a full summary).
You may wish to photocopy a variety of the activities and keep them in a container that all students can access them readily. Because simple instructions are provided, students
will easily understand what is required and work independently. Answers are at the back of the book and can be photocopied and laminated for self-marking.
Substitute and beginning teachers will also find this series invaluable in preparing and organizing the day’s classroom programs.
Grades 3 to 5.
