The activities in Journey Around the Nation are a challenging and fun way to have your students learn about the United States
and share their knowledge with parents, students, and community. The lessons may be used with gifted learners
in pull-out or self-contained programs or with students in regular classrooms.
Journey Around the Nation is written in outline-type format that guides the students in selecting
a state to study and in completing an independent research project. A special feature of the book is the Creative Thinking
Section, which provides many opportunities for the students to develop higher-level thinking skills. Section V provides an optional
way of using the material in simulation game format. Based on Bloom's Taxonomy and Williams' Model, skills such as fluent thinking,
flexible thinking, originality, risk taking, analysis, and evaluation are stressed.
